Water Operator/General Laborer
Deschutes Valley Water District (DVWD) is seeking individuals to fill the role of Water Operator/General laborer. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting District crews, completing operation and maintenance activities, assisting contractors, operating machinery, and following all site health and safety regulations. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential. This is a temporary position limited to six (6) months with the potential to transition to regular full-time employment including all benefits.
General Labor Duties and Responsibilities
- Unload tools, prepare materials, stack building materials, and set up equipment
- Follow instructions from foreman or supervisor
- Consult with construction plans
- Direct traffic safely around the construction or road maintenance site
- Use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks
- Follow all health and safety regulations
- Ensure proper PPE is worn for each assigned task
- Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Safely operate a variety of tools including pressure washers, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders, etc.
- Prepare construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting
- Provide assistance to maintenance crew as needed
- Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials
- Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
General Labor Requirements and Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeships a plus
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Positive attitude and excellent work ethic
- Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with District team
- Driver’s License Required. CDL and/or water operator’s license a plus

Full-time work of 40 hrs. per week with 9 paid holidays and paid leave accruals according to collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 125.
Salary: $20.86/hr starting, up to $28.44/hr depending on qualifications and experience
