Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator

City of Stayton

The City of Stayton is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to join our Public Works Department as a Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator. This single opening may be filled at either the Operator I or Operator II level, depending on qualifications. The position plays a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the City’s wastewater treatment facility, collection system, lift stations, and stormwater system.

This opportunity may be filled at the Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I or II level, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I:
    • Required Education / Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above duties.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experience in wastewater treatment plant operations.
      • Associate’s degree in chemistry, biology, or waste treatment discipline.
      • Ability to perform simple chemical tests, keep records, and derive and prepare accurate reports from those records.
      • Working knowledge of equipment, a variety of laboratory equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in wastewater and storm water collection system maintenance and operation activities.
    • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
      • Possession of or ability to obtain after one year of employment an Oregon Grade I Wastewater Treatment System Operation certification.
      • Possession of a current driver’s license and the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment an Oregon Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator II:
  • Required Education / Experience:
    • Certification as a current Oregon Grade II Wastewater Treatment System Operator and three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
    • Knowledge of principles, methods, tools, and equipment used in treatment facility operations and maintenance, including biological and chemical nutrients, and wasting strategies.
    • Knowledge of solids processing and related principles of chemistry and biology; principles of sample collection and preservation, safety and biohazards associated with sewage treatment and routine process control laboratory tests.
    • Preferred Education / Experience: Associate’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a waste treatment discipline.
    • Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Possession of a current Oregon Grade II Wastewater Treatment System Operation Certificate.
    • Preferred Certificates / Licenses / Registrations:
  • Possession of an Oregon Grade I Wastewater Collections System Operator Certification.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain within three (3) years of employment an Oregon Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operation certification.
  • Possession of a current Oregon Grade III Wastewater Treatment System Operation certificate.
  • Possession of a current driver’s license and the ability to obtain within one year of employment an Oregon Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator I: Salary range is $52,813 to $72,259 annually depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator II: Salary range is $54,858 to $75,872 annually depending on qualifications and experience.
  • The City also offers a comprehensive and competitive benefit package, including:
    • Vacation: Two weeks accrued annually (increases with longevity)
    • Holidays: 11 holidays annually and 2 floating holidays
    • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month
    • Insurance: 85% Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision
    • Defined Benefits Retirement Plan
    • Life Insurance Long-Term Disability
