Maintenance Worker I or II

MWI Salary: $3,880 – $4,953/Mo | MWII Salary: $4,528 to $5,777/Mo Depending on Qualifications

The City of Fairview is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Maintenance Worker I or II position to perform, within the Public Works Department, a variety of semi-skilled manual labor tasks of a routine nature in general maintenance on public property throughout the City.  Operates maintenance equipment, simple power tools and hand tools.  Works alone or as crew member under frequent supervision. Typical Job Duties:

  • Performs semi-skilled and manual labor in maintaining the City’s parks, streets, water, and wastewater facilities.
  • Reads water meters and checks for problems, such as leaks or meters not registering; turns off residential and commercial water services, repairs and installs water meters and fire hydrants and performs valve maintenance, line flushing, chlorine mixing and monitoring; performs general maintenance functions related to water, sewer, stormwater, parks, and streets.
  • Performs other duties related to the Public Works Department including repairing and installing street and stop signs, emptying and cleaning the debris from the City’s storm drain system, local street maintenance, mowing parks, bark mulching, hedge trimming, and simple building maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and repairing.
  • Operates various small power tools, light and heavy equipment in the normal course of duties; make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as necessary.
  • Performs related work or other duties as required.

MWI Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform strenuous work in adverse weather conditions. Position is part of the City’s Essential Services and must be available for response to emergencies on a rotating 24-hour basis.
  • One year construction and/or maintenance experience in Public Works related field is desirable.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent GED Certificate.
  • Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License or can obtain one within 30 days of appointment. Must be able to maintain a satisfactory driving record.

MWII Minimum Qualifications:

  • Meets MWI qualifications above, and:
  • Oregon Water Distribution Level II Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment.
  • Oregon Wastewater Collection Level II Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment.

For both MWI and MWII, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the work will be considered.
