Experienced Utility Worker

Deschutes Valley Water District (DVWD) is seeking individuals to fill the role of Experienced Utility Worker. This position requires previous experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of underground utility infrastructure. Ideal candidates will have an Oregon Water Distribution Level 2 Certification, a valid Oregon Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), competent person training, and heavy equipment experience. Additionally, the candidate will have the ability to effectively direct the work of other crew members. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential. This is a full-time position including all benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installation and repair of underground utilities.
  • Follow instructions from supervisor
  • Consult with construction plans
  • Direct traffic safely around the construction or road maintenance site
  • Use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks
  • Follow all health and safety regulations
  • Ensure proper PPE is worn for each assigned task
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Safely operate a variety of tools including pressure washers, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders, etc.
  • Prepare construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting
  • Provide assistance and guidance to maintenance crew as needed
  • Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials
  • Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly

General Labor Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeships a plus
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Positive attitude and excellent work ethic
  • Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with District team
  • Driver’s License Required. CDL and/or water operator’s license a plus

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for the employee and family (100% of premiums paid along with employee reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket expenses), Oregon PERS/Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP) with the employee’s 6% contribution paid by the District, HRA account for medical-related expenses, a 457 deferred compensation plan with employer matching up to 5.5%, and additional voluntary supplemental benefit options. Full-time work of 40 hrs. per week with 9 paid holidays and paid leave accruals according to collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 125.

Salary: $24.99/hr starting, up to $34.72/hr depending on qualifications and experience
