Examples of Duties

The Public Works Water Division is looking for a water professional that are dedicated to serving the community. This professional will demonstrate a good work ethic and can work with a team and on occasion work alone. Our team works in all weather conditions, responds to afterhours emergency repairs (as, needed), observing safe work practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment.
The water division installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution infrastructure including service lines, water valves, hydrants, pumps, and storage facilities. This is a water distribution position – The City of Tigard does not operate a water treatment plant.

Installation, repair and replace:

•    Water distribution main lines
•    Fire hydrants
•    Water meters
•    Water service lines
Performs maintenance that includes:
•    Water main flushing
•    Water valve exercising
•    Fire Hydrant maintenance
•    Maintenance around water meters

 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
(Utility Worker II)

  •  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND
  •  Two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape.

Preferred additional qualifications:

  • Within two (2) years of the date of entry into the position, must obtain or show the ability to obtain a Water Distribution License through Oregon Health Authority. 

(Utility Worker I)

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one (1) year of experience in construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, routine service of light and heavy vehicles and other power driven equipment, or parks and landscape.

Additional Information:
The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.

Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday through Thursday one week (9-hour days) and Monday through Friday (9-hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8-hour day on Friday) the next week. This schedule provides 3-day weekends every other weekend.
