About Aurora’s City Government
The City of Aurora is a chartered home rule city with a strong Mayor form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor and four Councilors elected from the city at large. The Mayor serves on an unpaid basis as the official conductor of business of the city. The city is currently undergoing a charter review process to evaluate a possible shift to a council-manager form of government. This position will work closely with the City’s Finance Director to ensure smooth and effective operations during an important period of transition.
About the Position
The Administrative Specialist is the “face” of Aurora, being the first point of contact for most residents and visitors. This requires exceptional customer service skills and the ability to quickly shift focus among competing needs and priorities. This position supports finance duties and the Finance Director. The city of Aurora’s small staff means you are expected to cross train and help each other during busy times and vacations.
In addition to the Administrative Specialist, the city currently has three full-time positions that report to the mayor: Finance Director, Public Works Superintendent, and the City Recorder. The city also has two full-time Utility Workers, who are supervised by the Public Works Superintendent. The City has contracts for City Attorney, City Engineer, and City Planner services. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who values transparency, teamwork, and public service in a collaborative, small-town environment.
