Water Utility Operator

Shift: Day shift/nights or on call as required for emergencies
Location: Nesika Beach, OR

Reports to: District Manager
Status: Full time employee

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for daily operations of the district’s water system. Coordinates efforts with General Manager. Able to assist or work along for the after-hours emergencies. Performs weekend duty coverage as required. May include supervision of temporary employees.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Emergency repairs to water system. Install new service connections. Traffic control. Daily routine system operation. Chemical mixing, testing and repair to injection pumps. Monitors pump stations, customer meters, service lines, mainline valves, hydrants, buildings, vehicles, and other equipment to insure continued effective operation of the water system. Procurement and inventory of repair parts. Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: General knowledge of water delivery systems or the ability to learn; general construction skills related to water works. Must be able to work with other employees and the general public. Must be able to bend, stoop, lift 60 lbs., dig with a shovel, and work in inclement weather. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to read, write, and understand English.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE: Position requires a High School Diploma or a G.E.D. certificate. Water Distribution 1 and Water Treatment 1 certification required, or ability to obtain Water Distribution 1 and or Water Treatment 1 certification within 16 months of hire. Two years’ experience in construction or water related field, or any other satisfactory combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record. The ability to attend District paid training.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is an hourly position. Wages will be DOE. After completion of a 3-month probationary period, full medical, dental, and vision plans will be offered. PERS retirement will be offered after 6 months as per PERS rule.

MISC: The nature of this job requires after hours and emergency response. Being on-call is a condition of employment. Working conditions include working alone, shift work, extensive driving, working around heavy equipment operations, working outside in varying weather conditions, frequent interruptions and some evening meetings. This incumbent may be required to work in harsh weather conditions.
