The successful candidate will perform technical duties associated with the operation and maintenance of the City’s water filtration and treatment plant and related facilities; help ensure compliance of the plant with regulatory agency requirements; collect laboratory samples and conduct a variety of tests to ensure City water quality; maintain water analysis records and data; monitor treatment processes; adjust controls; maintain equipment and facilities; and perform other work as assigned.
This is the entry level class in the Water Treatment Plant Operator series. The successful candidate hired will provide technical support that emphasizes the more routine water treatment operations and maintenance functions where limited actions are performed and duties are performed within established and well-defined parameters. Newly hired employees will work under immediate supervision, and a lead worker supervisor will continuously monitor the employee’s job activities. Most Water Treatment Plant Operator positions are flexibly staffed, and incumbents at the Water Treatment Plant Operator I level are promoted to Water Treatment Plant Operator II when they have met the requirements for the higher level and have demonstrated proficiency in performing the type of work that is required of a Water Treatment Plant Operator II.
