Water Wonderland Improvement District

Accepting applications for the position of Water Operator.

The Water Wonderland Improvement District is located approximately 20 miles south of Bend, Oregon and provides domestic water supply to the Oregon Water Wonderland (OWW) subdivision Units 1 and 2. OWW is still a growing community at 90% build-out and has a total of 1,400 lots between both units with approximately 1,200 metered connections.

General Job Description
Title: Water District Operator

Start Date: July 14, 2025 (flexible)

Annual Salary: Full-time position $60,000 – $75,000 (DOE). This includes sharing on call duties during the work week and weekends (additional pay for weekends).

Work Hours:

  • Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., negotiable and subject to change to meet WWID requirements.
  • On call outside of normal work hours – Friday 5 p.m. through Monday 8 a.m.
  • On call a minimum of two weekends a month – Friday 5 p.m. through Monday 8 a.m.

Education:

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Required – two years minimum of Water System Operator education or related experience. Three years, or more, experience preferred. Additional education may be substituted for experience.

Requirements:

  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
  • Water Distribution – Level 1 or higher.
  • Obtain a Water Distribution – Level 2 certification within one year (paid for by employer).
  • Cross Connection Specialist certificate or obtain within one year (paid for by employer).
  • Maintain yearly certifications for water operators as required by Oregon state law (paid for by employer).
  • Live within a 45-minute response time to the water district.

General Job Duties:

  • Be knowledgeable in the application of principles, practices, and methods to materials and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of the water distribution system.
  • Install, maintain, and repair water service connections, mainlines, and valves per approved method.
  • Maintain the operations of reservoirs, well pumps, booster pump stations, water lines, water meters, blow off stations, valves, district truck and equipment, etc.
  • File required reports with Oregon Health Authority – Drinking Water Services as they may pertain to this water system.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining cross-connection program.
  • Supervise contract help when needed.
  • Ensure security of district well sites and other assets.
  • Complete daily work orders for water reconnects/disconnects, repairs, meter reads, etc.
  • Maintain the office, workshop, and well sites as required.
  • Mark accurate location of water line locates received from utility notification center.
  • Carry a cell phone during normal work hours and while on call.
  • Attend monthly/annual WWID board meetings.
  • Be dedicated to the highest level of customer service to members.
  • Possess strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • The job can be physically demanding at times. Applicant must be able to lift at least 60 lbs., dig with a shovel, and work in inclement weather.
  • Render such other services and duties not listed here or that may be assigned from time to time.
