JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Utility Worker, Wastewater and/or Water

 

The City of Cannon Beach is seeking an individual skilled in construction, maintenance, repair, and related operational activities in wastewater or water treatment and management.  This position is assigned to the Wastewater and/or Water division of Public Works, under the lead of the Assistant Public Works Director.  Work hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with rotational on-call/standby duties.

 

Requirements: Graduation from high school or a GED, possession of a valid driver’s license, and three years’ experience in public works maintenance or related construction.  Experience with regulations and standards governing utility systems and knowledge of and experience with the use and safe operation of appropriate hand and power tools and equipment is required. Experience with hydraulics, electricity, mechanics, a strong mechanical aptitude, interpreting construction plans, blueprints, and technical manuals a bonus. Strenuous physical work is required, which may involve lifting heavy objects, bending twisting, working above the ground/in trenches or in confined spaces or on irregular surfaces, usually outdoors in conditions that may be wet and cold or otherwise unpleasant working conditions. Possession of one or more of the following certifications is preferred, but not required: Class I-II Water Treatment Certificate, Class I-II Water Distribution Certificate, Class I-II Wastewater Collection System Certificate, Class I-II Wastewater Treatment Certificate, first aid and CPR card; Fork Lift Operator’s Certificate and Erosion Control Certificate.

 

Duties include general maintenance, mowing, trimming, litter removal, assisting in the recycling building as needed, washing vehicles, operating hand and power tools and other equipment, recording readings in the water and wastewater plants, testing potable water for chlorine levels, checking the wastewater pump stations, responding to customer calls, and operation of a personal computer. This position may assist all departments in Public Works.  The successful candidate will exhibit a professional attitude, demonstrate the ability to take directions from a superior, enjoy working with the public, and take pride in his/her work.  The position is included in the city’s OPEU/SEIU bargaining unit.

 

Excellent benefit package.  Salary range, depending on experience:

Utility Worker I – $3,794 to $4,841 per month, or $21.89 – $27.93 per hour.

Utility Worker II – $4,406 to $5,622 per month, or $25.42- $32.44 per hour.
