Utility Worker I

Corbett Water District

Accepting applications for the positions of Utility Worker I.

Qualifications, duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and experience: The Utility Worker I will assist the Utility Worker II in the control of all public works operations and maintenance of Corbett Water District. The water distribution and treatment facilities, including continuing operation of and routine maintenance of meters, ponds, reservoirs, chemical pumps, and other equipment and facilities related to the water distribution and storage processes. Installation, repair and maintenance of water meters, service lines, mains, piping valves and other equipment. Also, all related record keeping requirements. Read and record water meters for customer usage. Distribute shut-off notices and turn on/off water meters. Perform routine maintenance /custodial duties to keep buildings, furnishings, and grounds clean and in good appearance. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas. This is a hands-on position and includes assisting in all essential duties and responsibilities of the Utility Worker and the Treatment Plant Operator.

Licenses and Requirements: Valid Driver’s License by date of hire. Must have or be able to obtain Oregon Water Distribution Level -I within one year of hire

Preferred experience and qualifications: Water Distribution/Treatment Background, Cross Connection Control, Backflow Assembly Tester, Flagger certification, plumbing or water distribution related, mechanical aptitude

Physical demands of position:  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, and controls. Position duties require lifting materials weighing up to 80 pounds. Activity and types of duties performed require manual coordination and dexterity.

Working conditions:  Work is performed in a wide variety of environments including laboratory, water treatment plant, confined spaces, outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to pollen, fumes, oils, and chemicals. Position performs “on call” services after normal work hours.

Supervision received:  Works under the supervision of the District Manager.

Salary Range: Utility I- $18.76 – $22.92, per hour.

Starting salary dependent on current qualifications and experience. Full time position, up to 40 hours per week. Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies within a one-hour response time. Health and dental insurance benefits. Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) benefits.
