Title:      Public Works Project Coordinator

Pay:       $83,023.62 – $90,659.71 annually (DOQ&E), plus benefits

Status:  Full-time; 40 hours per week

Opens: July 2, 2025

Closes:  July 30, 2025, first review – position open until filled

Background
The City of La Pine is Oregon’s newest city, incorporated in late-2006. The City is located in Deschutes County, Oregon, south of Bend and Sunriver. La Pine is a rural community nestled along the Little Deschutes River, surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest, Newberry National Volcanic Monument, and countless cascade lakes. The La Pine area abounds with recreational opportunities including world class hunting and fishing, in addition to nearby camping, golf, hiking, and mountaineering in the shadow of the Cascades. The community has been named one of “14 Great Ski Towns You’ve Never Heard Of” by realtor.com, with close access to both Mt. Bachelor and Willamette Pass ski resorts. With a population of approximately 3,126 inside the City and over 20,000 residents nearby, La Pine has significant residential, commercial, and industrial growth activity, and was the second fastest growing Oregon city (8.2% population increase) in 2022. The City provides sewer, water, public works, finance, planning, economic development, code enforcement, and urban renewal services.

Position Description and Qualifications (general)
The Public Works Project Coordinator position involves reviewing land use and development applications to ensure compliance with city codes, Public Works Construction Standards, and relevant Capital Facility Plans. A key responsibility is providing both general and technical information to the public and development community regarding development construction, public infrastructure systems, and Public Works policies and procedures. The position requires interpreting and applying regulations related to Public Works projects and operations. The role includes assisting in the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, coordinating efforts among city staff, department heads, consultants, contractors, and other governmental entities. Additionally, this position also performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
The Public Works Project Coordinator supervises the following positions: Utility Workers, seasonal workers and other positions as assigned.

The position requirements and qualifications include the following:

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid state driver’s license within 6 months of hire.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction, Business or Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a municipal government setting.
  • Five (5) years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, including water, wastewater, and street and storm drainage systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment.
  • Satisfactory combinations of experience and training which demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Water Distribution – Level 1 or 2 certification
  • Wastewater Collections – Level 1 or 2 certification
  • Wastewater Treatment – Level 1 or 2 certification
  • Cross Connection certification
  • Completion of Inspectors’ Training Course
  • Materials Testing certificate
  • Flagger Certification
  • Commercial Driver’s License
