The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has a full-time opportunity available for an Environmental Cleanup Project Coordinator (Administrative Specialist 1). This position will be located in Salem, Oregon.

There are 3 regions (Northwest, Western, and Eastern); this position is in Western Region. The Regions provide the following services: compliance inspection of regulated entities; enforcement of permit requirements and administrative rules; issuance of air, water, and solid waste permits; investigation of complaints; issuance of subsurface permits in counties; response to spills or other incidents with environmental impacts; direct contact and liaison with other governmental entities, industries, and the public; and technical assistance to regulated entities and the public.

What you will do!
You will coordinate the administrative and operational tasks associated with environmental cleanup projects, including Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) and Environmental Cleanup Site Information (ECSI) databases, as well as emergency response incidents, in a manner that ensures efficient and timely completion of project work and other related activities. You will track project milestones and due dates, work with project managers on all administrative tasks such as document review and issuance, review and execution of legal documents, public comment and public information meetings, enforcement actions, database entry, maintenance and reporting, file and record management, and public records request. You will also be responsible for providing customer service to the public and regulated community, including responding to general inquiries regarding the Cleanup and Emergency Response Program.

What are we looking for?
Minimum Qualifications: 2 years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that included records processing, generation of documents, and gathering and sorting data.
Candidates who are most competitive will also reflect the following:
- Ability to take personal responsibility for increasing their knowledge of environmental justice and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to switch priorities or projects seamlessly; high aptitude for learning new things and an ability to pay attention to detail.
- Experience with databases, including entering data, running reports, and maintaining data integrity; experience performing data entry accurately; ability to pay attention to detail.
- Experience in a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities and varying demands.
- Experience explaining rules and procedures, as well as experience processing requests for information.
- Experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting data and other information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint
Working Conditions:

This position will be based out of DEQ’s Salem office and will require in-office work 2-3 days per week. The successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid work on the remaining days. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. DEQ will provide necessary hardware (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. At DEQ sites, you will have access to a workspace, however, it may be shared with other employees.
There will be regular travel between the Salem and Eugene offices, as well as occasional travel for public hearings, meetings, trainings, and conferences, some of which may involve evening work, weekend work, and/or overnight stays. Lifting of boxes that weigh up to 35 pounds will occur.
