Located in Newberg Oregon, Hiland Water has been a family operated business since 1997 and currently works with over 50 systems in the state of Oregon.
Job skills and responsibilities include but are not limited to: the ability to and knowledge of installing, replacing, repairing and maintaining water mains, valves, meters and hydrants, monthly meter reading, water sampling, and leak detection. Types of equipment used include vacuum trailer, trash pumps, tractors, mowers, weed eater, chain saw, chop saw, and small hand tools and equipment.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and operate a motor vehicle. The position requires mobility. Many duties are physically demanding and occasionally require the movement of materials weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance. Movement of materials weighing 10 to 50 pounds may consume up to 20% of the work period. Duties require regular use of hand tools, chain saw, shovels, and operation of light and medium equipment. Activity and types of duties performed require manual coordination and dexterity.
This position works 40 hours per week, rotating on-call duties as scheduled. The on-call time requires occasional holiday, evening, and weekend work, as needed for emergency services. The majority of duties take place outside of buildings, with exposure to all types of weather conditions on a year-round basis. In-field hours vary but usually consist of (4) 10 hour days scheduled Monday through Friday. Utility technicians are home every night but will be asked occasionally to help on a project in a remote system in which the company pays for lodging, food, transportation and drive time.
Experience in public works or a similar environment is preferred. A CDL, Wastewater, Distribution, and/or Treatment certifications on all levels are also preferred.
A high school diploma or GED and valid Oregon driver’s license are required at the time of hiring. An ODOT flagging certificate and forklift certification is required within one year of employment and can be obtained during work/company paid time.
Communication with office and field personnel, desire to work hard, and to get the job done right and in a timely manner are essential.
